Happy V Day Teachers!

Cause I am "THAT" mom!
That is why I knitted up these cute washcloths for the kid's teachers and teacher helpers for valentines day.
(not the best pic - taken with phone)

And I always decide to make gifts like this at the last minute. I got four of these knitted up in less then 2 days.
I made 3 of these pink and white variegated ones and 1 red one. And yes for some reason I only took a pic of these one.
I got mini bubble baths which I wrapped the washcloth around tied with a cute little ribbon. And no I didn't get a picture - opps.

So what is on my size 9 needles?

My Family's Afghan!
I said in my 1st post that my husband has been asking me to make stuff for our family. After making 2 beyond beautiful afghans (in my view) for 2 family weddings this past summer I decided to make an afghan for my family. After searching patterns all over the net I feel in love with this one. The color got me. I couldn't get past the color play. I kept coming back to it. I had done this similar circle design in a few dishcloths in the past.

I knew just the yarn to make it in. I would have loved loved to make it in Noro yarn. But between my daughter and I we would be in big trouble cuddled up to a wool blanket. Wool = Hives for the two us. So instead I ran to get Bernat's Mosaic yarn which I fell in love with while making one of the wedding afghans. The colors they have offered made it so hard for me to choose for my afghan. At my local store they had like 12 colors available. I grabbed one of each of about 10 of the colors. Ran home and sat and figured out which ones to use first. This is one of my most favorite creative parts of knitting - picking colors. I love picking colors.

So since christmas I have been putting most of my knitting time into this project. I can't wait to sit on the couch with my family and cover up us all up with it. I really hope this happens when its still cold out instead of a 80 degree July day.

Here are a few pics of the progress. I have one strip done and another started. The lighting isn't very good since its winter and we only have clouds and no sun here in Michigan.

1st finished strip

The start of my second strip. I also added a slight edge on the far left strip of the afghan.

Some the colors to grace the afghan

Knitted potato scrubber - Who knew??

So this is about a knitted item and a little bit about food.
Last week I was going to roast a chicken and wanted to add some small potatoes in with it. I grew potatoes last summer in my garden and I have a bunch of super small ones. So I needed to give them a good scrub before putting them in a pot. Well I started with my veggie scrubber but its a bit on the old worn out side. So why not try a nice textured knitted washcloth? It worked out great. Scrubbed them all clean and dropped them in right in the pot.

So here are my potatoes all clean on the dishcloth that I used. Its a large dishcloth so you can see the size that the potatoes are.
I would also like to note this dishcloth wasn't made my me. It was a gift from one of my knitting group friends. We do dish/wash cloth exchanges often. I love to use all the pretty ones I get from all my friends.

The family of course ate them all up. But we are the meat and potato kind of people.

2012 knitting plans

My husband has been hinting to me to knit stuff for our house and us. I always mean to knit one of those dishcloths for myself or to knit a ruffle scarf for my daughter after seeing one that a friend made. I knitted for us before but its never the majority of my work.

So I have some stuff on my TO KNIT LIST

 TO KNIT LIST
- A honeycomb afghan
- Fingerless glove - mittens
- A family tree afghan
- about 10 dishcloths
- skull cap hat for hubby
 - He even said he may wear a scarf
- some quick fancy scarfs for myself
- Also I have this cute sweater I started years ago soon after I started knitting. I want to restart it.

So this is my short list as of right now. My goal is to keep you up to date on what I got knittin

Welcome

Welcome to my new blog. I hope this space will be a place to showcase and share in my all my knitting adventures.

I have been knitting for over 5 yrs now. Its my favorite hobby. I teach knitting at a local community ed program. I have an online store where I sell my knitting but it is kind of empty right now since I was so busy with holiday gifts that I was knitting, costume orders and the 2 largest projects I have ever knitted. (Which I hope to also highlight here.)

I hope to post lots of pictures of what I am working on links to patterns and maybe lessons that I learn with each project. And yes there are lessons that one learns even as a seasoned knitter.
